Being part of the North Werstern Railway Ministry Of Railway here in Jaipur means dealing with a lot of movement. Jaipur is a busy place and the railway is right at the heart of it. We work out of our office here, surrounded by stacks of papers and the sound of trains in the distance. It is not a quiet job, but we are used to it by now. The fans hum on the ceiling all day long, trying to beat the Rajasthan heat. We drink a lot of water and tea while we go through the files. Some of us have been here for years, watching the tracks and the city grow. There is a specific rhythm to the day that involves a lot of checking and re-checking things. We don't have fancy decorations on the walls, just some old maps and maybe a calendar or two. The desks are heavy wood and have been here probably longer than some of the staff. When the sun starts to go down over Jaipur, the building cools off a little bit, and that is usually when we start finishing up. It’s just regular work for the ministry, nothing too exciting most days. We just make sure everything stays on track. It's a lot of manual work and sitting at desks, but it’s what we do. People come in with questions and we try to find the right drawer or file to help them out with whatever they need.
