If you walk down Chaura Rasta, you’ll find us at number 142. It’s a crowded street, especially on the weekends when the shoppers are out in full force. Our shop is full of rolls of carpet and stacks of fabric samples that have been sitting there for years. Some of them are a bit dusty, but that’s the nature of the business when you’re right on the road. I usually spend my afternoons moving heavy rugs around or trying to help someone pick a color for their living room walls. It gets really hot in here during the summer months, even with the small fan blowing directly on the counter. We’ve got all kinds of stuff packed into the corners—curtain rods, old catalogues, and leftover scraps of linoleum. My father started this back when the street looked completely different. Now, there’s so much noise from the traffic outside you have to yell sometimes just to be heard. I usually have a cup of tea around four o'clock, sitting on one of the rolled-up mats near the door. It’s a messy place, to be honest. There are threads everywhere and the lights flicker if we turn on too many things at once. But people know where we are.
