Laxmi Silver Arts

Our shop, Laxmi Silver Arts, is tucked away in Haldiyon Ka Rasta within the Johari Bazar area. If you’ve been to the bazaar, you know it’s a maze of narrow lanes and lots of people. We are at number 151. It’s a small space, but we pack it with a lot of silver pieces. We spend our days working at small wooden benches, often with just a single lamp to see the details. There’s always the sound of hammers or filing going on. It’s quite dusty because of all the metalwork, so we are constantly wiping things down. We don’t have a big storefront with glass windows. It’s more of a traditional workshop where people can come in and see what we are doing. The air smells like metal and old wood. We drink a lot of tea while we work. The neighborhood is very old, and our family has been around these parts for a long time. Customers usually find us by asking around or because they’ve been coming to us for years. We don't really do sales pitches. We just show people what we have finished lately. Sometimes we are busy with custom orders, other times we just make whatever comes to mind. It’s a slow process, but we aren’t in any hurry. The floor is tiled and gets quite cold in the winter. We have a small bell above the door that rings when someone enters. We usually have the radio playing quietly in the background. It helps pass the time when the work is slow.
