We are the Kumawat Cement Jali Workers. You can find us at Ambabari Bajri Mandi in Ringas. We also have a presence in the Ambabari area. Working with cement is a messy business. There is dust everywhere and your hands are always grey by the end of the shift. We make those decorative cement screens, what people call jalis. It takes a lot of skill to get the patterns right so they don't crack while they dry. The Bajri Mandi is a very active place with trucks bringing in sand and gravel all day long. It’s loud and there’s a lot of shouting and heavy lifting. We like being in Ringas because it’s a good hub for construction materials. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We work outside or under a simple tin roof. The sun can be brutal, but the cement needs to dry, so we just deal with it. Our family has been doing this for a long time. It’s a trade passed down through the years. We don't promise anything other than a solid piece of work. If you need jalis for a house or a boundary wall, you come to the mandi and look for us. We’ll be the ones covered in dust. It’s not a glamorous job, but we take pride in the patterns we create.
