K. Agarwal Marbles

1120 Mishra Rajaji Ka Rasta. It’s a tight spot in Chandpole Bazar. We’ve been here for a good while. The streets are always crowded. You know how it is in the old city area. People come through the 1st Cross looking for marble and they sometimes get lost because the lanes are narrow. My father started things here and it’s basically stayed the same. We have slabs leaning against the walls and it’s dusty most days. There isn’t much space for a big office, so we just sit on plastic chairs or the stone itself. If a truck comes, everything stops until it’s unloaded. It’s hard work, moving these heavy pieces around by hand mostly. We don’t have fancy displays. What you see is what’s there on the ground. Some days are slow and we just drink tea and watch the shoppers walk by. Other days, three people want things at once and it gets loud. The marble comes in from the mines and we just sort it out. It’s a simple life really. We know the neighbors, the guy selling tea around the corner, and the people who have shops next to us. We’ve seen the market change over the years but the stone stays the same. It’s heavy, cold, and takes a lot of effort to move. That’s just how it goes here in the bazar.
