Jhalani Kiryana Store

I run Jhalani Kiryana Store over in Jaipur. We are at Shop Number 11 in Kartarpura, specifically in the Saini Colony area of Bhagwati Nagar. It’s a residential neighborhood, so I see the same faces every single day. Most of my work involves weighing out things like lentils, rice, and sugar into plastic bags. My hands are usually a bit dusty from the flour by the end of the day. The shop is tucked away a bit, but the locals know the way. I have a lot of big burlap sacks sitting on the floor. I try to keep the lids on the jars tight so the damp doesn't get in during the monsoon. The 302006 area is growing, and there are new houses being built nearby. I get a lot of workers coming in for a quick snack or a smoke. I have an old ceiling fan that wobbles a bit, but it’s better than nothing in the Jaipur heat. My ledger is quite thick now; I've been recording sales in it for a long time. I don't like those new digital systems much. Sometimes a stray dog sits near the door for shade, and I don't have the heart to shoo it away. It’s a plain life, but I like being my own boss. I know which auntie wants which brand of tea and who likes their pulses extra clean.
