If you walk down Chaura Rasta and turn into Lalji Saand Ka Rasta, you’ll find us at Shop No. 5. This part of Adarsh Nagar is always full of people and the sound of rickshaws. Here at Jaipur Publishing House, we’ve been working out of this small shop for years. It’s not a large space, but we make it work by stacking books and papers wherever they fit. The walls have some marks on them from moving furniture around, and the lighting could probably be better, but it gets the job done. We spend our mornings looking over drafts and talking to the local printers about schedules. It’s a lot of back-and-forth work. Sometimes the humidity makes the paper curl a little, which is a bit of a headache. We don't have a big corporate team, just a few people who know the publishing business and how things move through the system in this city. Visitors usually find us by looking for the sign near the corner, though it's faded a bit over the seasons. We sit on old wooden chairs and drink tea while we go through the day's tasks. The tea stall across the lane is where we get our energy in the afternoons. There’s no fancy lobby or anything like that. People come in to discuss their manuscripts or pick up copies of recent runs. We just handle the work as it comes in.
