Our office is down by Gopalpura Byepass, near Gujar Ki Thadi. If you know the area, you know it's usually dusty and full of trucks. Jaipur Mineral Excavating Co is based at number 31. We spend a lot of time dealing with rocks, soil, and heavy machinery. It isn't the kind of job where you wear a suit. Most of us have boots that are always covered in mud or red dust from the sites. We handle the logistics of getting things out of the ground. It is hard work and the sun can be brutal when we are out in the field. Back at the office, things are pretty basic. We have a few desks, some old maps pinned to the walls, and a lot of paperwork piled up. Dealing with minerals means you have to understand the land around Rajasthan. We've been doing this for a long time now. The guys usually sit around and talk about the equipment and which machines are breaking down this week. It is a lot of troubleshooting. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room with magazines. If you come by, you'll probably find us on the phone or looking at a site plan. It's a straightforward business. We move earth and stones. That is about it. The bypass stays noisy all day, so we've gotten used to shouting over the engine sounds while we work. It’s a messy job, but someone has to do it.
