Jain Confectionery & Bakers

If you walk by Mansarovar 30/4, you’ll probably smell the bread or the biscuits we’ve got in the oven. That’s just the way it is at Jain Confectionery & Bakers. We start early in the morning while most people are still sleeping. The kitchen area gets really hot, but that’s part of the job. We aren't a big factory or anything, just a local spot where we make things by hand. The shelves are filled with jars of sweets and packets of snacks that we pack ourselves. A lot of kids from the nearby houses come in with a few coins looking for something sweet. It’s nice to see the same faces every day. We don't have fancy uniforms, just our regular clothes and maybe an apron if things are getting messy. The floor needs a lot of sweeping because of all the flour and crumbs. Sometimes the oven acts up and we have to fix it ourselves. We don't spend money on ads or big posters. People come here because they live nearby and they know what we make. It’s a simple life, mostly spent weighing out ingredients and watching the timer. Taking turns sitting on the bench outside is what we do when there’s a break in the rush. It’s a good neighborhood to be in, and we’re just happy to be part of it.
