Jagdamba Mechanical Works

Down on Mansarovar Road No 4, you’ll find Jagdamba Mechanical Works. It’s one of those places where you can smell the grease and the cut metal from the street. It’s a noisy environment most of the time because someone is always running a lathe or hammering something back into shape. We don’t have a fancy office for meetings or anything like that. Most of our talking happens right on the shop floor while we’re looking at some piece of machinery that’s stopped working. Our hands are usually dirty by nine in the morning, and they stay that way until we go home. It’s honest work, though it’s tiring for the back and the knees. We’ve got a lot of heavy tools scattered around the place, and we know exactly where each one is, even if it looks like a mess to someone walking in for the first time. Road No 4 is a busy stretch, and there’s always something happening outside our door. Sometimes we have to shout to be heard over the sound of the grinders. We don't spend much on decorating the place because that’s not what we’re here for. We just focus on the mechanical side of things. It’s been this way since we started Jagdamba Mechanical Works. We just keep our heads down, work on the projects people bring us, and try to get everything finished before the sun goes down. There is always a lot of cleaning up to do at the end of the day, but that's just part of it.
