Hotel Kartikey

Hotel Kartikey is at 2 Bani Park on Kabir Marg in the Barodia area. Bani Park is a bit more relaxed than the city center, but we still see a fair amount of people coming through. The building has a small front yard where we keep a few potted plants, though I often forget to water them in the summer. I’ve worked here for five years now, and the daily routine is always the same. I start by checking the guest list and then I see what needs fixing. The rooms have basic wooden furniture that we’ve had for a long time. It’s not modern, but it does the job. Kabir Marg is a nice street to walk on in the mornings before it gets too hot. We don't have a fancy dining room, so most guests just eat out at the little cafes nearby. Sometimes the internet is slow because of the thick walls, but we try to help people connect if they really need it. The staff is just me, a cleaner, and a night watchman who likes to sleep on a cot by the door. We don't pretend to be anything we aren't. It’s just a house that we turned into a hotel to earn a living. Most of our guests are quiet people who just want to be left alone. I spend my afternoons reading the newspaper and waiting for the check-ins to start.
