Gulab Chand Sobhagmal

Gulab Chand Sobhagmal is situated at 405 Hanuman Ji Ka Rasta, right in the heart of Tripoliya Bazar. This is the old part of the city, so the streets are narrow and always buzzing with people and scooters. Our shop has been in this location for many years, and not much has changed about the way we do things. The walls are lined with wooden shelves that hold our stock, and the floor is worn down from all the feet that have walked across it. Being in Tripoliya Bazar means you have to be okay with a bit of noise and a lot of neighbors close by. We know most of the other shopkeepers on Hanuman Ji Ka Rasta, and we often chat over the tops of our counters. We don't have a website or anything like that. People know us by name, or they recognize the shop as they walk past 405. It’s a traditional way of working where a handshake and a conversation matter more than anything else. Sometimes the monkeys from the temples nearby come onto the roof, which can be a bit of a distraction, but it’s just part of being here. We open the shutters every morning and sit on our cushions, waiting to see who the day brings in. It’s a simple life, focused on the trade and the community that’s existed here for generations. We just keep doing what we've always done.
