Bhagirath Prasad Soni and Sunil Kumar Soni are based right in the heart of Johari Bazar. If you’ve ever walked through Johri Bazar, you know it’s famous for all the jewelry and the bright colors. It’s incredibly crowded most days, with scooters honking and tourists looking around. Our place is part of that old tradition. It’s a family thing, really. My father and I, and now the rest of us, have been here for a long time. The shop is small and filled with the smell of old wood and metal. We don’t have those big air-conditioned showrooms like you see in the malls. It’s more personal here. You sit on the floor or on small stools, and we talk about what you need. It gets very hot in the summer, but we have a couple of old fans that do their best. Sometimes we have tea brought in from the stall across the street while we look at pieces. There’s a lot of history in these walls, and you can hear the noise of the market outside all day long. It’s a bit chaotic, but we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. We know the other shopkeepers, and we all look out for each other. It’s a busy life in the bazar, but it’s a good one. We just take things one day at a time, serving the people who come to see us.
