Basudha Stones and Granites is tucked away in the Shyam Apartment building, specifically Flat T-7 on Sarojini Marg. It’s right in the C-Scheme area of Jaipur. It might seem a bit odd to have a stone business running out of an apartment flat, but that’s where the administrative side of things happens. We spend a lot of time on the phone coordinating where the granite needs to go. C-Scheme is a pretty central place, so it’s easy for us to get around and see clients at their construction sites. We deal with various types of stones, mostly stuff that goes into kitchens or main flooring. The paperwork piles up on the desks just like anywhere else. We’ve lived in Jaipur all our lives, so we know the local market pretty well. It’s not a huge operation with a thousand employees. It’s just us making sure the granite gets from point A to point B without any cracks or issues. Sometimes the elevators in the building are slow when we’re trying to get out to a site visit. We don’t have a flashy showroom with bright lights and fancy displays. Most of our work is done through samples we carry around or by showing people stuff directly at the warehouse where the slabs are kept. It’s a bit of an old-school way of doing things, but it works just fine for us and our customers. It is just daily business here.
