Amnesty International India

Our office is located at 701 Maharani Apartment in Bapu Nagar, on Rajendra Marg. It’s a residential-style building which makes it feel a bit more relaxed than a big glass tower. Inside, Amnesty International India is mostly just people at desks with a lot of papers and books everywhere. We do a lot of research and talking to people about various issues. The phones ring quite a bit and there’s usually a pot of tea going in the corner. We don’t have a big corporate budget for fancy furniture, so things are a bit mismatched. It’s a functional space where the focus is on the work we are doing rather than how the office looks. Bapu Nagar is a nice area and we like the local shops nearby. Our staff comes from all over and we spend a lot of time in meetings or on long calls. We aren't here to sell a product or make a big profit. We are just trying to keep track of what’s happening and document things properly. It can get a bit loud when everyone is talking at once, but we manage. There’s no big hierarchy here where you can’t talk to the person next to you. We just get on with our tasks and try to stay organized despite the constant flow of information coming in. It’s a busy, sometimes messy, but very real place to work.
