You can find us in Ratanpura, which is a small tola in the Mojaphra area of Islampur block. Mamta Devi is the one who keeps things running here. We are a small masala company based in the heart of the village. Most of our work involves grinding spices and getting them ready for local kitchens. The air around our place always smells like turmeric, chili, and coriander. It is a strong smell that gets into your clothes, but we don't mind it anymore. We use simple machines and a lot of manual labor to get things done. It is a noisy process and the dust from the spices can make you sneeze if you aren't careful. We don't have a big corporate office with air conditioning. We just have our workspace and a place to store the bags of raw spices. Life in the Islampur block is simple. We follow the rhythm of the village. When there is a local festival, we might close up early, but otherwise, we are there from morning till evening. We don't have any fancy goals other than making sure the masala is fresh and that we can pay our bills at the end of the month.
