Puri Oil Mills Ltd

Our mill is located in Indri, right near the Augmentation Canal in the Karnal district. It is a busy spot, especially when the harvest comes in and the farmers bring their seeds to us. The smell of mustard and oil is very strong here; you can smell it from down the road before you even see the building. It is an old mill and the machinery makes a lot of noise when it is running at full capacity. We have piles of sacks stacked up in the warehouse, and there is usually a bit of oil on the floor, so you have to watch your step. The workers here have been with us for a long time and they know the machines inside out. We do not have much of an office, just a small room with a desk and some ledgers where we keep track of the loads. It is a dusty environment and the sun makes the metal roof hot in the middle of the day. We spend a lot of time outside talking to the drivers and checking the quality of the seeds. Life in Indri revolves around the seasons and the crops. We just play our small part in that cycle. It is hard, physical work, but there is a sense of purpose in seeing the oil being pressed and ready for use. We close the gates late and start all over again the next day.
