Wasim General Stores

Our shop, Wasim General Stores, is over in Indore on the Noori Colony Main Road. We are in the Manik Bagh area, and if you’re coming from the Saify Nagar Station, we are quite close by. You can often hear the trains passing or the station announcements if the wind is blowing the right way. It’s a lively neighborhood. The shop is at Shop No 1 and it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a local general store. We’ve got jars of candy on the counter and bags of lentils stacked against the walls. It’s a bit dusty because of the road traffic, so we are always wiping down the counters. We don’t have fancy glass displays or bright neon lights. It’s just a regular space with some old wooden shelves that have seen better days. People from the colony come in for their daily needs, and we usually know most of them by name. We talk about the local news or how the weather is changing while we bag their groceries. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour or two, and we just sit by the doorway where there’s some light. It’s a simple routine of opening up, sorting the milk delivery, and greeting the regulars. There’s always something to do, whether it’s counting the stock or just sweeping the front step. It is a nice enough way to live and work.
