Solanki Kirana Stores

Our store is situated right at Shop No.1 near the Prakash Pump Churaha in Indore. This part of Dewas Road is always full of traffic and people moving around Lasudia Dewas Naka. We set up this kirana business to help the local families get what they need for their kitchens without having to travel too far. It’s a simple shop where we sell all the staples like rice, pulses, and cooking oil. We spend a lot of our time weighing things out on the scale and packing them into small bags for the customers. Most people who come in live in the nearby houses, and we’ve come to know their names and what they usually like to buy. The shop isn’t very large, so we have to stack the sacks of grain carefully so there’s still room for people to stand. Every morning starts with us sweeping the front and checking what’s running low. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, so we usually sit near the fan and wait for the evening rush when people come home from work. We don’t have any fancy signs or advertisements. People just know we are here by the Prakash Pump. It’s hard work and the margins aren’t big, but it’s our own business. Sometimes the supply trucks are late and we have to explain to the regulars why we don’t have a certain brand. We just try to be honest and keep the shelves as full as we can manage.
