Salasar Kirana

Salasar Kirana is tucked away at Shop No. 1046-B on the Scheme No 71 Main Road. We are right there in Gumasta Nagar, not too far from Balaji Chowk. Indore is a city that loves its food, so we stay busy keeping the shelves full of spices and pulses. The shop is a bit crowded because we try to fit as much as possible in here. You have to watch your step around the sacks of rice on the floor. It’s just me and a couple of boys who help with the heavy lifting and local deliveries. Sometimes the traffic on the main road is so bad that the delivery vans can't even park right. We see the same people every week, usually the families living in the lanes nearby. They come in with their lists written on scraps of paper or just tell me what they need from memory while I weigh everything out. We carry the usual things like tea, sugar, soap, and whatever else a house needs. It gets quite hot in the afternoon, so I usually keep the fan on high and sit near the door. We don't have any fancy displays or anything like that. It’s just a neighborhood kirana store where you can get your daily stuff and maybe hear a bit of local news. Most days are the same, but that’s how it is when you run a shop like this for a long time. It’s just hard work and being here every day.
