Saheli Suits is located right in the middle of Itwariya Bazar. We are at No. 42-44, which is very close to the Kaanch Mandir. Because of the temple, there are always people around, both locals and tourists who are just passing through. The market is narrow and it gets very crowded, especially on the weekends. We spend a lot of our day unrolling big bolts of fabric and showing the colors to anyone who walks in. The light inside the shop is a bit yellow, so we often take the cloth to the doorway to see how it looks in the actual sun. It’s a lot of folding and unfolding all day long. We have these old wooden counters that have been worn smooth over the years from all the fabric sliding across them. There’s a small stool in the corner where we sit when there aren’t many people around. We usually have a radio playing somewhere in the back, just for some background noise. Working in Itwariya Bazar means you know all the other shopkeepers. We trade stories about the customers and the weather while we wait for the morning rush to start. It’s a simple setup we have here. We don’t have air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that spin fast but don’t do much when it’s really hot outside. We just drink more water and keep going. It is what it is.
