Khalsa Trading Company

Our spot is at 35, Bank Chamber, right in the middle of Main Siya Gunj. If you know this part of town, you know it’s always crowded and loud with people moving goods back and forth. We’ve been in this building for quite a while now. The stairs up to the office are a bit narrow and steep, but we’ve climbed them so many times we don't even think about it anymore. Khalsa Trading Company isn't a huge operation with hundreds of employees. It’s just a few of us sitting at our desks, surrounded by ledgers and some sample products we trade. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the windows don't always close all the way, but it works for us. During the monsoon, the street outside gets pretty messy with all the trucks and carts, so we end up tracking a lot of mud inside. We spend most of our time on the phone or writing out invoices by hand. It’s the kind of place where you know everyone’s name and we know the tea seller downstairs pretty well. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy. Just the name on the door and a lot of work to get through every day. Most of the trading happens early in the morning, so by the afternoon, things quiet down a little bit and we can catch up on the paperwork.
