People sometimes get confused by the name and think we’re some kind of fancy gallery, but really we’re just a small shop in Nehru Nagar. I’ve been working behind this counter at 497/7 for longer than I care to admit. The shelves are packed with all sorts of things, from basic pencils to paints and brushes that have been sitting there for a bit too long. It’s a bit cramped in here, to be honest. We have boxes stacked in the corners because we never seem to have enough storage space. Every morning I open up the shutters and sweep the front step. Most of our visitors are students from nearby schools or just locals who need a specific bit of stationery for a project. I try to keep track of what people are asking for, but sometimes we run out of things and have to wait for the next delivery to arrive. It’s quiet during the middle of the day, which gives me time to reorganize the shelves, though they usually get messy again by the evening. The light in here isn't the best, but it works for what we do. I like seeing the same faces coming back over the years. Some kids who used to come in for crayons are now bringing their own children. It makes you realize how much time has passed. We just keep doing what we do, day in and day out, making sure the supplies are here when people need them.
