You wouldn't necessarily expect to find Roy Fine Art inside the S.R. Compound at Lasudia Mori, but that’s where we are at number 191. The compound is mostly full of warehouses and heavy transport businesses, so our place is a bit of an outlier. We have a fair amount of space here, which we need for all the canvases and frames. It’s a bit quieter inside than out on the road where the trucks are constantly rumbling toward Dewas Naka. We have shelves reaching up to the ceiling filled with different types of wood for the frames and rolls of material. The light isn't always perfect, but we make do with what we have. There’s usually the smell of sawdust and paint hanging in the air. We don't have a gallery feel here; it’s more of a working studio where things are being put together and boxed up. Sometimes we get people wandering in thinking they’ve found a different warehouse, and we have to point them back toward the main gate. We just keep our heads down and work on whatever project is currently on the table. It’s a good spot for us because we have the room to move the larger pieces without bumping into things, even if the surroundings are more industrial than artistic. We’ve been in this compound for a while now and the routine suits us just fine.
