Being at the Jamul Cement Works here in Bhilai is a whole different kind of pace. My name is Umesh Kumar Tiwari, and I handle things as the deputy manager for the stores here at Acc Ltd. It’s a massive place, really. When you walk around the plant, there’s always a bit of dust in the air and the sound of heavy machinery running in the background. It isn’t exactly a quiet office job. We spend a lot of time keeping track of spare parts and supplies coming in and out. The store is where everything meets. It gets quite busy when the big trucks arrive to unload or when the maintenance crew needs something urgent. You have to stay on top of the records or things get messy quickly. Bhilai is a steel and cement town, so everyone knows the works. We are just one part of this huge operation. My desk is usually covered in requisition slips and inventory sheets. It’s not about being fancy, it’s about making sure the plant doesn’t stop because we ran out of a specific bolt or oil. We have a good team in the stores, mostly locals who have been around for years. Sometimes the heat in the afternoon is tough, but we manage. We just go about our business, making sure the cement keeps moving out to where it is needed. It is a lot of logistics and paperwork, honestly, but it keeps us very busy.
