Thevarmadathil Spices

Living out here on the Munnar to Udumalpet Road is something else. Our place, Thevarmadathil Spices, is right there in Marayoor where you can see the hills all around the building. It stays pretty cool most of the year which is nice for the stuff we keep in the shop. Most mornings start with a lot of mist and the sound of vehicles heading up the road toward the border. We spend most of our time sorting through the bags and making sure everything is where it should be on the shelves. It is not a big corporate setup or anything like that. It is just a few of us working here near the sandalwood forests. People stop their cars when they are driving through because they see the shop on the side of the road. We talk to travelers from all over, which makes the day go by a little bit faster. Sometimes the monkeys come around from the trees and we have to keep an eye on things so they do not make a mess. It is a bit dusty sometimes when the wind picks up off the road, but we get used to it after a few days. We just try to get the work done and go home to our families. There is always a lot of cleaning to do because of the dust from the passing trucks. We have been in Marayoor for a long time now and everyone knows us as the people on the main road.
