Spice Village is right there on the Thekkady-Kumily Road. It’s a busy stretch of road since it’s the main way people get around this part of the world. We see a lot of travelers passing through, some heading into the greenery and others just stopping for a quick bite on their way somewhere else. The air around here is different, you can smell the damp earth and the plants, especially after it rains, which happens a lot. Our building isn't anything special to look at from the outside, but we keep it clean. Inside, it’s mostly just wood and stone, keeping things simple. We don't have a lot of staff, so everyone does a bit of everything, from washing up to taking orders. We don't have a fixed routine because every day is a bit different depending on who stops by. Sometimes it’s a big group of tourists and sometimes it’s just a few locals talking about the spice prices. We don't spend money on flyers or ads. We just hope that if someone likes the food, they might tell their friends. The kitchen is small, so it gets pretty cramped when we have a full house. We just do the best we can with what we have. It’s a quiet life for the most part, just focusing on the cooking and making sure the tea is always hot for anyone who needs it.
