Elephant Route

Our place is called Elephant Route, and you can find us in Anavachal, over in Kumily. Being so close to Thekkady means we see a lot of people passing through. It’s a green part of the world, lots of trees and the air feels different here. We don't have a big corporate headquarters. It’s more of a local base where we manage things. The floor is tile and it’s easy to clean because people bring in a lot of red dirt on their shoes. We talk to travelers all day about where they’re going next. Sometimes we just sit outside when it’s quiet and watch the monkeys. It’s not a complicated business. We know the routes around here like the back of our hands. We aren't trying to sell anyone anything they don't need. Usually, it’s just giving advice or helping someone find their way to the park. The office has a few maps pinned to the wall that are starting to curl at the edges. It’s a bit of a trek to get here if you’re coming from the city, but that’s the point of being out in nature. We just keep the doors open and see who walks in. It’s a decent way to earn a living, being surrounded by all this green. We’re just local people doing our thing in Kumily, helping folks see the sights without making a big deal out of it.
