You’ll find Taj Spice Exports at 54J in Puliyanmala, which is just south of Kattappana. This part of the country is famous for its spices, and we are right in the middle of it. The air here is always a bit cooler because of the hills. Our building is a practical space designed for packing and storing. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls. It’s just white paint and shelves. We deal with various spices that come from the plantations nearby. Cardamom is a big part of what we do. We spend hours checking the grades and making sure everything is dry enough for export. It’s a lot of sitting and looking closely at small things. Sometimes our fingers get stained from the spices. We have a few regular workers who have been with us for a long time. They know exactly what they are doing. We usually have a break around noon for lunch, and everyone sits together. There isn't a lot of hierarchy here. If something needs to be moved, we all help. The trucks come in the evening to pick up the crates. It’s a steady rhythm that doesn't change much throughout the year. We are just a local export house trying to do a decent job with the spices we get from our neighbors and the surrounding estates. It's quiet work but we enjoy the routine of it.
