Idukki is a beautiful place to work, though the terrain can be a bit of a challenge when we’re moving stuff around. Sydef Beverages and Nutrifoods is what we call ourselves. We deal with all sorts of drinks and healthy food items. It’s a quiet life here compared to the big cities like Kochi. We work out of the house, which gives the whole operation a very personal feel. You won’t find any receptionists in suits or glass elevators here. Just a few of us making sure the beverages are handled correctly and the nutrifoods are packed up well. The air is a bit fresher up here in Idukki, which makes the long days more bearable. We usually start early before the sun gets too high. Most of our neighbors are farmers or have small businesses of their own, so they understand the hard work we put in. We don’t have a big mission statement on the wall. We just want to make sure the products we send out are good enough for our own families to eat and drink. It’s a simple way of looking at things but it works for us. We’re just local people doing our bit in the food industry.
