Origin Spices

Down in the Chithirapuram area, not too far from the center of Munnar, you will find where we work at Origin Spices. It is a really nice part of the country, but the roads are very winding and can be a bit of a challenge if you aren't used to driving them. We are surrounded by lots of trees and the air is usually cool and a bit wet because of the mountain mist. Our building is just a simple one made of stone and wood, tucked right into the side of the hill. When you walk inside, the smell of the spices is very strong and stays with you. We spend most of our time sorting through the bags and making sure everything is stored where it should be. It is a much slower pace of life up here than what you find in the big cities. We don't have many people working here, just a small group of us who live nearby. Sometimes people traveling through the area wander in because they are curious or need a map. We aren't a fancy showroom for tourists; it is more of a place where we get the actual work done. We use old wooden crates and simple brown bags for everything. The floor is a little bit uneven, but we don't mind it. When the heavy rain starts, we usually just sit back and wait for it to pass. We don't have much technology, just a phone and a ledger. It is just a small local spot in Munnar.
