Our little shop is right on Mattupetty Rd here in Munnar. If you have ever been to this part of the hills, you know how busy this road can get with all the tourists and local traffic. We deal with spices, which is pretty common for this area, but we have been doing it at this spot for a long time. The shop is small and usually smells like cardamom and pepper. We spend a lot of our day weighing out small bags for people who stop by. Some are locals we see every week, and others are just passing through on their way to the dam. It is a lot of manual work, scooping spices out of big bins and sealing them up. We do not have any big corporate backing. It is just a family-run thing. Sometimes the damp weather in Munnar makes things a bit difficult, so we have to be careful about how we store everything. The shelves are made of simple wood and we keep them as full as we can. We are not trying to be the biggest shop in town; we just want to keep things going. People like to ask where the spices come from, and we tell them what we know. It is a simple trade. We open early when the mist is still on the road and stay until it gets dark. It is mostly just us, the spices, and the sound of the cars outside.
