Idukki Food And Spices Federation

Out here in Kamakshy, we work out of the Karinpanmakkal Building. It’s right there at KP-11/329 C, and if you’re looking for us, just ask for Saiby Thomas’s place. Being in Idukki means we are surrounded by greenery and the air usually smells like rain or earth. We deal with food and spices, which makes sense given where we are. The federation is really just a group of us who care about what grows in this soil. Our office is quite simple, with wooden tables and a few shelves holding samples of what we work with. It isn't a high-tech facility. We do a lot of things by hand and spend a lot of time talking to local people. The road to the building can be a bit bumpy, especially after the monsoon hits. We don't have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy speeches. We just write down what we need to do on a notepad and get to it. Some days are slow when the weather is bad, and other days we are rushing to get everything processed. It’s a very grounded way of living. We’re just a bunch of folks in the Karinpanmakkal building trying to make sure the spices and food from our area get where they need to go. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. We usually end the week by making sure the storage bins are all tightly sealed.
