Elanthoor Spices

Up here in Kunthalampara, the air usually smells like whatever is in season. We are Elanthoor Spices, located right in the Kattappana area. It’s a hilly place, and the weather can be a bit unpredictable, but it’s perfect for what we do. We spend our days handling different kinds of spices that come in from the local growers. It’s a lot of sorting, drying, and packing. My hands always smell like cardamom or pepper at the end of the day. The shop isn't anything special to look at, just a sturdy building to keep the moisture out. Moisture is the enemy when you’re dealing with dried goods. We’ve been in Kattappana for years, so we know most of the farmers around here. They bring their harvest, and we talk about the rains and the prices. It’s a very grounded way to live. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just talk to people face to face. If someone needs a bag of something, they just walk in. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except during harvest time when things get really hectic. We just keep doing what we know how to do. It’s simple work, but it’s important to the people around here. We like being part of the community in Kunthalampara. Sometimes we even help out with local events when they happen nearby. It is a good place to be.
