Sthreekavach Foundation

Down here in Brindavan Teachers Colony, specifically at 5-11-110/33, that’s where Sthreekavach Foundation is based. It’s a quiet area mostly. We aren't a big corporation. Most of us living nearby just decided to put this together. It’s been a learning process for everyone involved. Some days we feel like we know exactly what we are doing, and other days we’re just figuring it out as we go along. We work out of a modest space. It’s not fancy. We have some old chairs and a few tables we brought from home. We spend a lot of time meeting with women from the surrounding streets in Brindavan Teachers Colonyameenapur. They come to us with all sorts of things they need help with. We don't always have the answers, but we listen and try to find a way to help. The neighborhood is growing fast, so there’s always someone new stopping by. It keeps us on our toes. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back on. We don't use a lot of big words or have fancy presentations. It’s just us, working on local issues. My friend Sunita does most of the scheduling, though we usually just tell people to drop in whenever the gate is open. We’ve been doing this for a few years now and it’s become part of our daily routine. It’s just what we do with our time and effort. We are just local people helping neighbors who need a hand.
