If you walk through Begum Bazar in Nampally, you’ll find us at 36-7-20. It is a very old part of the city and the streets are quite narrow. Sri Vigneshwar Metal Stores has been around for a while. We have all sorts of metal items packed into the space. The sound of metal hitting metal is something you get used to pretty fast. It’s loud and busy around here almost every single day. The morning starts with us pulling up the heavy metal shutters. Everything is a bit dusty because of the construction work nearby. We spend a lot of time weighing things and moving heavy boxes around. The air in Begum Bazar always smells like spices and old stone. We don't have much room to move inside the store. You have to be careful not to trip over the pots or the sheets of metal on the floor. Customers come from all over, some just looking and some knowing exactly what they need. We usually have a fan going, but it doesn't do much in the peak of summer. We know the other shopkeepers on the lane. Sometimes we share a meal or just complain about the traffic. It’s a hectic life but it is what we know. By the time we close, our hands are usually a bit dirty from the metal. We just lock up and do it again the next day. This place is home to us.
