Sri Saraswati Stores

Being located near Sheesh Mahal Theatre in Ameerpet means there is never a quiet moment. At Sri Saraswati Stores, we deal with a lot of students and office workers who are always in a rush. The shop is at 7-1-140/141, and since Delhi Mithais is right there, the air usually smells like frying jalebis or samosas. It makes me hungry all afternoon. We stock everything from ballpoint pens to notebooks and small household items that people suddenly realize they forgot. The counter is usually piled high with new stock that I haven't had time to put away yet. Ameerpet is a crowded place, and sometimes the sidewalk gets so packed that people have to squeeze into the shop just to let someone else pass. I’ve been behind this counter for years. I know most of the regulars by face, even if I don’t know all their names. They come in for a refill for their pen or a packet of biscuits. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so I have to use a rickety wooden ladder to reach the top. It’s a bit dangerous but I’ve gotten used to it. The theatre crowd brings in a lot of noise during the big movie releases. We just keep serving whoever walks in. It’s a small space, a bit cramped, and the lighting could be better, but it’s our spot. We don't do anything special, just sell what is needed.
