Sri Sai Durga Kirana

Running Sri Sai Durga Kirana keeps me on my toes all day long. We are located right near the Govt School in Pragati Nagar, very close to JNTU in Kphb Colony. Being near the school means we see a lot of kids coming in for chocolates or pens before their classes start. Kukatpally is a crowded place so there is always noise from the traffic outside. The shop is filled with bags of grains and rows of plastic jars with different sweets inside. I spend most of my time behind the counter weighing out sugar or packing pulses into small bags. It is a family thing, so my brother helps out when I need to go for some work. We know most of the neighbors by their names and what they usually buy every month. The shelves are a bit crowded because we try to fit as much as possible in this space. Sometimes the lights flicker when the power is low, but we just keep going. It isn't a polished store with bright lights. It’s just a simple kirana shop where the floor gets dusty from the street outside. We keep a stock of oils, soaps, and those big bags of rice people like. Often, students from the university come by late for some snacks. It’s a simple life here, just keeping the shop open and making sure the supplies are ready for whoever walks through the door.
