Sri Mahalakshmi Kirana And General Stores is our little shop in Avanthi Nagar, right here in the Basheer Bagh area of Hyderabad. We’ve been operating out of this same spot for a long time. We carry most of the stuff you’d need for your daily cooking, like dals, rice, and oils, plus all the general things like soaps and detergents. It’s a busy neighborhood and there’s always someone coming in for a last-minute item. I handle most of the work myself, from talking to the suppliers to bagging the items for customers. Hyderabad gets really hot, so the overhead fan in the shop is always running. We don't have a fancy setup with air conditioning or sliding glass doors. It’s just an open storefront where you can walk right up. Sometimes the cows wander by on the street, and we have to shoo them away. We know most of our customers by their faces, if not their names. It’s a friendly place and people often stop for a minute to complain about the traffic or the price of onions. We try to keep our prices fair for everyone. Dealing with the loose grains and spices can be messy, but that's the nature of a kirana store. We are just here every day, opening up early and staying until the street quietens down at night. It’s a simple life running a shop in Avanthi Nagar. We hope to stay here for many more years as long as people keep coming by.
