Shankar Kirana Stores

You can find Shankar Kirana Stores right on Nampally Road. We are quite close to the Yousufian Darga so there are always people walking past our door. It’s a very busy part of Hyderabad and it never really gets quiet until late at night. We sell pulses, rice, oils, and all the usual things you would expect in a kirana shop. My father started this business a long time ago and I just took over when he got too old to stand for long hours. The space is filled with the smell of loose spices and roasted grains. It’s a nice smell if you ask me. Sometimes the bags of flour get heavy to lift but we manage. We have a lot of regular customers who have been coming here for decades. They don't even have to tell me what they want, I already know their monthly list. We don't bother with fancy packaging or bright signs. Most of our goods are sold in plain bags. The traffic outside can be really loud with all the rickshaws honking but we’ve gotten used to it. Sometimes we run out of stock because the delivery truck gets stuck in the Nampally traffic. We just tell the customers to come back the next morning. It is a straightforward way of doing business and it has worked for us all these years near the Darga. We plan to keep serving the neighborhood as long as we can stand.
