Our shop sits right at the X Road in Gandimaisamma, which is a pretty busy spot in the Ranga Reddy district. If you know this part of Hyderabad, you know how much traffic passes through this intersection every single hour. We’ve been here for a good while, watching the roads get wider and the buildings go up all around us. The store itself is quite simple. We have the usual stuff people need, like bags of rice stacked in the corner and shelves full of different types of washing powders and soaps. I usually spend my time sitting behind the wooden counter near the front door. It gets quite dusty because of all the trucks moving on the main road, so there is always a lot of cleaning to do. We don't have a lot of fancy lights or displays, just the basic racks that hold the biscuits and snacks for the kids who stop by after school. Most of the people who come in are living in the nearby colonies or working at the local sites around here. We know most of them by name by now. Sometimes we run out of things if the delivery doesn't show up on time, but we just make do. It’s a bit of a loud place to work because of the honking outside, but it keeps things interesting. We just focus on keeping the shelves stocked with the daily items people expect to find.
