Royal Leather Works

Being right opposite the railway station in Nampally means there is never a quiet moment at Royal Leather Works. We are located at 5-8-225/3 & 4. From the moment the first trains pull in during the early morning, the street is full of people rushing to get somewhere. Our workshop is right in the middle of that energy. We spend a lot of time working on different leather goods, repairing things that have worn out or making new pieces from scratch. You can hear the rhythmic tapping of hammers and the whir of the stitching machines throughout the day. The shop front is usually cluttered with bits of leather and various tools we use. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the materials we’ve gathered over the years. We get a lot of travelers who stop by because they’ve had a bag strap break or a shoe sole come loose during their journey. It’s satisfying to fix something and see them head back to the station ready to go. The air always has a mix of leather dust and the exhaust from the rickshaws outside. We’ve got a small fan that tries its best during the summer months, but it’s mostly just hard work and staying busy. We know the tea sellers and the other shopkeepers along this stretch of Nampally well. We’ve been part of this street’s daily rhythm for a long time now. We just focus on the leather and the people passing through.
