Rao Supermarket

Being on Attapur Road means it’s almost always noisy outside. We are at 76/94 and the traffic never seems to stop. Inside the supermarket, we are usually busy moving boxes around or trying to get the vegetables lined up right. It’s a lot of walking back and forth. My staff and I start early before the sun is even fully up. We have to get the milk crates in and make sure the floors are wiped down. It’s a big space but it fills up fast when the evening rush starts. People coming home from work stop in for bread or soap. We don’t have much time for sitting down. Sometimes the billing machine acts up and we have to fix it while a line forms. It’s just part of the day. We aren't trying to be the biggest place in town, just a spot where you can get what you need without a fuss. We keep the pulses and grains in the back and the snacks near the front where the kids can see them. Most days are the same, but we like the routine. The regulars know where everything is, so they don't even ask anymore. We just nod and get on with the work. It’s a lot of lifting and reaching, but that’s what a supermarket job is. We just try to keep things moving so everyone can get home.
