If you are in Nampally, look for us at 5-7-591. We are right at the Ek Minar area, directly opposite Mallappa Auto Spares. This is a very busy part of town with a lot of noise from the autos and the crowds. Our kirana store is packed from floor to ceiling with everything you might need for a kitchen. We have small bins of spices and big jars of biscuits. The space is narrow, so we have to be careful when moving around. Customers stand at the front counter and shout out their lists. We go back and forth grabbing packets of tea, oil, or lentils. It’s a fast pace, especially in the mornings when people are buying things for breakfast. We use an old calculator and sometimes just do the math in our heads. The light inside is a bit dim, but we know where every single item is kept. Even if something is hidden behind a stack of soap boxes, we can find it. We’ve seen many shops come and go on this street, but we stay right here. It’s a lot of standing on your feet for twelve hours a day. We deal with all kinds of people, from grumpy neighbors to kids wanting a single piece of candy. It’s just a normal neighborhood shop where you get your daily groceries and hear the latest local gossip.
