Rajaram Kamal Kishore Supari & Kirana Merchant

Begum Bazar is always a bit of a squeeze, and our place at 15-7-432/2 is right in the thick of it. We deal in supari and all kinds of kirana items. It’s mostly bags of stuff piled up against the walls. Hyderabad gets really crowded in this area, so there is always a lot of noise from the street. We spend our time weighing things out and putting them into smaller plastic bags. The smell of spices is very strong here; you get used to it after a few minutes, but visitors always notice it. We aren't trying to be a big supermarket. This is just a merchant shop where people come for specific wholesale or retail goods. Sometimes we sit on the wooden counter and wait for the lunch rush to pass. The lights are a bit dim in the back where we keep the extra sacks. We’ve had the same old ledger for a while to keep track of what’s coming in. There is no air conditioning, just a small table fan that rattles. We talk to the other shopkeepers nearby when it's quiet. It's a lot of work moving the heavy bags around, but that is what we do every day. We don't have a website or anything like that. If you need supari or lentils, you just come to the bazar and find us.
