Malakpet Market is a busy place to spend your days. Our shop, Parmeshwari & Co., is located at Shop No. 154, and we have been here for more years than I can easily count. The market is always crowded and it gets really loud with all the sellers shouting and people trying to get a better price. We don’t mind the noise though, it’s just the energy of the place. My father was the one who started this business, and now I handle the daily operations myself. We sell the basic things that people in this area need for their homes. The shutters on the front are heavy and they sometimes get stuck in the tracks, so I have to keep them greased up. We stock the shelves ourselves. It might not look like the most organized place to a stranger, but I know exactly where every single item is kept. If you ask for something, I can usually find it in a few seconds. We see the same faces every week, and that is honestly the best part of being here. Knowing the customers and hearing about their families makes the long hours feel shorter. It’s more than just a shop to us; it is our whole life. We don't have any big plans to expand or move. We just want to keep the doors open and the stock fresh for everyone. Working in Malakpet means you are never bored and there is always someone to talk to.
