Om Sai Lab Glass Works

If you come down to Devinagar in Kukatpally, you’ll find us at Om Sai Lab Glass Works. We work in a small shop at No. 5 - 5 - 7 / 21 where there is always a bit of heat from the torches. Dealing with glass is a tricky thing because one wrong move and everything breaks. We make all sorts of things like beakers and tubes for laboratories. The workspace is filled with different kinds of glass rods and finished pieces waiting to be packed. It’s a dusty place and we often have to clear off the benches to make room for new projects. We don’t have fancy showrooms or anything like that. People usually come to us because they need something specific repaired or made from scratch. It takes a lot of patience to get the shapes right. Sometimes we spend hours on a single piece only for it to crack while it’s cooling down, which is frustrating but it happens. We keep a small radio playing in the background to pass the time while we work. Most of our days are spent leaning over the bench with a torch in hand. It’s a specialized kind of work that doesn’t get much attention, but we’ve been doing it for quite some time now. We just try to keep up with the orders that come in from the local schools and labs while managing the heat.
