Maharaja Grocery

Maharaja Grocery has been a fixture on Commercial Street in Shivajinagar for a long time. Our shop at 3-9-652 is usually packed to the ceiling with bags of rice, lentils, and all sorts of household stuff. It is not the biggest store you will ever walk into, and the aisles can be a bit narrow when we have a lot of customers in at once. We try to keep everything stocked, but sometimes we run out of things faster than we can get them back in from the suppliers. That is just the way it goes in a busy neighborhood like this one. The front of the shop is always a bit cluttered with new crates arriving and empty ones waiting to go back. We spend our mornings unboxing and our evenings tallying up the day's sales in the book. It is a lot of standing on your feet all day, and the ceiling fans never seem to be quite enough during the hot summer months. Most of the people who come in are regulars from the nearby streets that we see every week. We know what they usually want before they even have to ask us. It is a noisy, friendly kind of place where you can hear the street sounds outside all day long. We do not have a fancy computer system, just a simple way of doing things that has worked for years.
