Laskar Kirana Store

If you go to Toli Chowki, specifically over on Hakeempet Road, that’s where we are at 63/5. It’s a kirana store, which means we have a little bit of everything squeezed into a small space. We’ve got jars of candies, bags of lentils, and different types of flour. The walls are lined with wooden racks that we built ourselves a long time ago. It’s often a bit dark inside because the shop is deep, but we have a few bright bulbs to help out. Hakeempet Road is always moving. There are bikes and cars going past all day long. We get a lot of people just stopping for a minute to grab one or two things they forgot. It’s a bit chaotic during the evening rush. We try to keep up with the demand, but sometimes the bags of onions take up too much floor space. It’s a real hands-on job. We’re usually dusty from handling the grain sacks or tired from standing all day. But it’s what we do. We know the neighbors and they know us. There’s no fancy talk here, just asking how the family is while we count out the change. Laskar Kirana Store is just a part of the street. We’ve been here, and we plan to stay here, just doing what needs to be done every day.
