You can find us at 10-1-80 in Koti. It’s a small space but we pack a lot into it. Kanaka Durga Kirana & General Stores has been our life for years. We deal with bags of rice, dals, and all the small things people need for their kitchen. The street outside is always humming with people going to work or school. We start our day early, sweeping the front and getting the milk packets ready. It's not a shiny place. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we're too busy handling customers to worry about that right now. Most of our customers are neighbors who have lived in this part of Hyderabad for decades. We know most of them by name and know what they usually buy. Sometimes we run out of change and have to ask the guy next door, that’s just how it goes here. There’s always a bit of dust because of the main road, but we try to keep the jars wiped down. We don't do home delivery with apps or anything, people just walk in. It’s a lot of standing around and lifting heavy sacks, but it keeps us busy. We just want to make sure the locals have a place nearby to get their groceries without any fuss. The wooden shelves are a bit bowed from the weight of the cans and bottles, and the old scale sometimes needs a little tap to work right. We just keep working. It is what it is.
